College Counseling

The road to college begins the minute students arrive on Whitfield's campus, with enrollment in an appropriately challenging, college preparatory program. The planning begins sophomore year and continues through high school with seminars that address students' questions about applying to college and regular individual conferences with one of the three college counselors. The focus is on the student — helping individuals learn more about themselves so they can conduct thoughtful, thorough college searches. Measures of success include family satisfaction with college admissions, 100% placement to four-year colleges and honorary scholarship dollars awarded to Whitfield seniors. The class of 2009 received more than $1.2 million per year in honorary scholarships in recognition of the students' achievements.

Having been at Whitfield, where students are welcome to call their teachers at home or meet with them before or after school, students look for colleges and universities that provide that same kind of faculty access and investment in their success and they frequently consider schools with 2,000-7,000 undergraduates. Whitfield seniors choose from an array of colleges such as Georgetown, DePauw, Penn, Miami University, Northwestern, Elon and Washington University.
